Hewell Prsion holds cat B, C and D prisoners. The prison is a combination of 3 older prisons, Blakenhurst, Brockhill and Hewell Grange. It consists of 6 blocks which has both single and double cells. All with incell toilets. The prison can hold upto 900 prisoners.

It is located in Redditch in Worcestershire and the grounds behind the manor are part of the National Garden Scheme. Hewell prison is a male local prison and opened in 2008. The prison holds males who have been sentenced and those prisoners who are deemed vulnerable.

In the grounds of the prison, The Grange, the Cat D prison is also situation on site. It was originally a manor house owner by the earl of Portsmouth.

Hewell prison has 6 house blocks and have double and single cells, all with in cell sanitation.

Here are the following blocks:

  • House blocks 1, 2 A&C spur, 3 B&C spur and 6 – Convicted and unconvicted prisoners
  • House block 2 A&C spur 3 C Spur – Induction/first night unit
  • House block 4 -Prisoners with drug or alcohol issues
  • House block 5, 2B spur – Vulnerable prisoners
  • Segregation Unit- Prisoners subject to segregation rules
  • Inpatients’ Unit-Prisoners with health care requirements

The nearest train station to the prison is Redditch but this station is still 5 miles away. A Community Transport service will operate on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday picking up from Birmingham New Street railway station,
