Lincoln prison is a Cat B local prison based in city centre of Lincoln and holds upto 729 remand and convicted prisoners. It hold adult male prisoners and was built in 1872. It serves the courts of Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and Humberside.

The Prison offers the following accommodation units:

  • A wing – refurbished in 2007 holds 216 men and  has the first night centre and is the Induction wing
  • B wing – holds 150 men
  • C wing – holds 198 prisoners in a mix of single and double accommodation
  • D wing – segregation unit
  • E wing – holds 165 men, designated for vulnerable prisoners, predominantly sex offenders

Lincoln prison was built originally to replace the prison at Lincoln castle. Between 1900 and 1961, 18 executions took place at the prison The last being a 34 year old polish man convicted of murdering his 62 year old landlady.

Activities at the prison now include workshops, charity workshops, vocational training and education. The prison also boats a gym and laundry.
