HMP Wellingborough was officially closed in 2012, although it’s still being retained as a reserve prison in the event of other establishments being at capacity. Prior to its check, the prison was a order C establishment, holding adult males. It firstly opened as a borstal in 1963 and continued to hold youthful malefactors until 1990, when it wasre-roled. How to book a visit at The Wellingborough Prison?

You can book your visit by telephone. There is no online booking service available.

Visiting Times:

  • Monday to Thursday, 6:30am to 8am, 11:30am to 1pm, 5:30pm to 11pm
  • Fridays, 6:30am to 8pm, 11:30am to 11pm
  • Weekends and bank holidays: 6:30am to 11pm

How to get to Wellingborough Prison – Wellingborough Prison Directions

Opened as a Borstal in 1963, Wellingborough continued to hold Young Offenders until 1990, when it was converted to a Category C Training Prison for male adults.

To Book A Wellingborough Prison Visit You Must:

All visitors are required to arrive 15 minutes prior to the visit starting.  Any person who arrives after the visit has started will not be permitted entry.

For all visits to Low Moss, visitors are required to bring photographic ID and proof of address (dated within the past 3 months).  The only forms of photographic ID that will be accepted are:

  • Valid Passport
  • Valid Photographic
  • Driving Licence (full or provisional)
  • Citizen Card
  • Senior Citizens Bus Pass Travel Card (issued by Scottish Government)

The only forms of proof of address that will be accepted are:

  • Utility bill
  • Council tax bill
  • Benefit book
  • Bank statement
  • other letter from official source
