Castle Huntly Prison
Castle Huntly Prison is a castle and is the only open category prison in Scotland. Castle Huntly can hold over 285 male prisoners and its main focus is preparing the prisoners ready for their release.
Castle Huntly has served different purposes over the years since the second world war. Its been a girls probationary school, borstal for boys, a YOI and now a male prison.

Castle Huntly dates back to around 1452 and was completed in the second half of the 15th century. During the war it was used as a girls probation school then purchased by the Scottish home and health department in 1946 to be used as a boys borstal home.

Entry to the prison will not be permitted without acceptable identification.

There are public parking facilities, which include disabled spaces, for visitors to Castle Huntly. On entering the establishment the visitors’ parking is on your left outside the links centre.
Getting there by Bus?
There is a bus service that runs to Castle Huntly from Dundee City Centre; this is operated by Strathtay buses. The number 39 operates from the Seagate Bus Station in Dundee and stops in Longforgan Village, the same bus service also operates from Perth Bus station at Leonard Street, Perth, Perthshire, PH2 8ET
