Norwich Prison, also known as HMP Norwich, has been a prominent correctional facility since 1887. Located on the eastern outskirts of Norwich in Norfolk, England, this Category B/C prison accommodates adult and juvenile males. Following the closure of its last large Victorian prisoner wing in 2009, Norwich Prison has adapted with new units to support inmates, particularly those new to custody or with substance misuse issues​​​​.

Booking a Visit

  • Advance Booking: Visits must be booked in advance either online or by phone.
  • Online Booking: Visit with the prisoner’s name, date of birth, and prisoner number. Choose up to 3 dates and times, and the prison will confirm via email.
  • Phone Booking: Call the Visits Booking line at 01603 708795. Lines are open Monday to Friday, 08:30 – 12:30 & 13:30 – 16:00.
  • Booking Deadline: Book by 4 pm the day before the visit, or by 4 pm on Friday for weekend visits. Bookings cannot be made more than 7 days in advance​​.

  • Reception Site (wings A, B, C, E, M, Ketts unit): Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays (9:30 am to 11:30 am); Wednesdays and Saturdays (2:15 pm to 4:15 pm).
  • Local Discharge Unit (wings F, G, Healthcare, L wing): Tuesdays and Thursdays (2:15 pm to 4:15 pm); Saturdays and Sundays (9:30 am to 11:30 am)​​​​.

Visitor Requirements

  • Identification: Visitors must provide acceptable ID, such as a passport, driving licence, or other approved documents​​.
  • Visitor Limit: A maximum of three adults and their children are permitted per visit​​.
  • Arrival Time: Arrive no later than 10:45 for morning visits and 15:00 for afternoon visits​​.

Allowed Items

  • Visitors are permitted to bring locker keys, up to £15 in coins, identification, a baby’s bottle or cup, and essential medicines​​.
