HMP Liverpool

HMP Liverpool, located in the heart of the city, is a category B/C local men’s prison. It primarily serves the Blackburn, Merseyside, and Wigan court areas. Originally constructed in 1855, it replaced an older and more confined facility. HMP Liverpool has a rich history, including a period during the Victorian era when it was notable for executing 62 people using the then-new step-less gallows. Educational courses provided by Manchester College are available to the inmates.
