HMP Wormwood Scrubs is a Category B adult male prison situated in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, West London. Established during the Puritanical period, the prison has undergone various expansions and refurbishments over time. Known colloquially as ‘The Scrubs,’ it has a capacity of 1279 and primarily accepts convicts from courts in its catchment area. In 2015, the prison was criticized in a report for being in a “poor condition,” described in more detail as “opprobrious condition” in a leaked report to The Guardian.
