Cornton Vale Prison is a YOI female prison based in Stirling, Scotland. Cornton Vale holds upto 217 female prisoners and is operated by the Scottish prsion Service. Cornton Vale consists of 5 different houses. Cornton vale is the only prison in Scotland that specifically caters for female inmates and accepts both remanded and sentenced prisoners.

Due to being a female prison, Cornton Vale also has a separate Mother and Baby Unit with 7 spaces.

How to book a visit to Cornton Vale Prison?
Those individuals who are on remand are entitled to one visit daily Monday to Friday and also one at the weekend. The Women who are convicted are entitled to not less than 2 hours in any period of 28 consecutive days. Each of those visits will last an hour.

WHAT ARE THE VISIT TIMES AT CORNTON VALE PRISON?

The prison visits are split into 2 weeks.
Week 1
Monday – 19:00-20:30

Tuesday – 14:00-15:30

Wednesday – 19:00-20:30

Thursday – 14:00-15:30

Friday – 19:00-20:30

Saturday – 14:30-16:00

Sunday –  14:30-16:00

Week 2
Monday – 14:00-15:30

Tuesday – 19:00-20:30

Wednesday – 14:00-15:30

Thursday – 19:00-20:30

Friday – 14:00-15:30

Saturday – 14:30-16:00

Sunday –  14:30-16:00

Then the Monday after will go back to week 1 and so on.

What you need to bring to a visit at Cornton Vale Prison?
The following examples shall be accepted as suitable for photographic ID purposes:

  • Valid Passport
    ·Photographic Driving Licence
    ·         Citizen/Validate UK Card
    ·         Senior Citizens Bus Pass
    ·         Workplace photo ID card
    ·         Photographic Bank Card
    ·         Other official photo ID i.e. membership card

The following examples shall be accepted as suitable for proof of address provided it is less than 3 months old:

What are the Directions to Cornton Vale Prison?
By Car
Cornton Vale is situated on the B823 approximately 2 miles from the town centre of Stirling. If travelling by car from Glasgow, Edinburgh or the north, stay on the M9 until junction 11, take the road signposted to Bridge of Allan (2 miles)

Once you are in Bridge of Allan, turn right into Fountain Road (opposite the Royal Hotel). Proceed down Fountain Road, past the Fire Station and over the railway level crossing. Cornton Vale is 400 yards past the crossing on the right hand side. Parking is limited at Cornton Vale. There are a few spaces at “The Family Hub”, if there are no spaces left, the main car park is situated to the rear of the prison. There are disabled spaces in the Family Hub car park and also in the main prison car park outside the main gate.

By Bus and Rails 
The bus and railway stations are located in Stirling, near the City Centre. The bus station is 200yds to the left when you exit the railway station.  The 53 and 54A buses stop right outside the prison; the journey takes approximately 10 minutes.  Taxis are available outside the train station; a taxi fare is approximately £4.
