Visits to HMP Wealstun are scheduled for specific times throughout the week:

  • Monday to Thursday: 09:30 – 11:30, 13:30 – 15:30
  • Saturday and Sunday: 09:30 – 11:30, 13:45 – 16:00 Visits are not available on Fridays​​.

Booking Your Visit

To book a visit, you can use the online booking system. You will need the name, date of birth, and prisoner number of the person you’re visiting. You can select up to 3 possible dates and times. Confirmation of your visit will be sent by email. If you don’t receive a confirmation within 1-3 working days, contact the prison via email at [email protected] or call 01937 444599 (lines open 0830-1230, Monday to Friday)​​.

A Visitors Centre is available on visiting days, opening from 08:30. The visiting room offers play area facilities for children and a refreshment counter for purchasing food (available only at selected times)​​.

  • Train: Nearest stations are Leeds (~12 miles away) and York (~15 miles away).
  • Bus: From Leeds, Service 770 runs half-hourly on weekdays and hourly on Sundays, taking about 45 minutes. From York, buses 412, 413 leave 12 minutes past the hour on weekdays, no Sunday service.
  • Taxi: Available from Leeds, York, and Wetherby, with varying costs​​.

  • From the South: Exit 45 from A1, follow directions for Walton/Thorp Arch Trading Estate.
  • From the North: Follow signs off A1 for Wetherby/Racecourse, then follow signposts for Thorp Arch Trading Estate/Walton​​.
