Visiting Information for HMP Winchester

Visits at HMP Winchester are held daily between 14:00-16:00. To book a visit, you must:

  1. Be on the prisoner’s visit list.
  2. Book your visit in advance either online at www.gov.uk/prison-visits or by phone on 01962 723000.
  3. Have the required ID during your visit.
  4. Ensure at least one visitor is over 18.

For remand prisoners, visits last 45 minutes with two sessions in the afternoon, whereas convicted prisoner visits last 1 hour and 30 minutes with one session each afternoon. Visitors must present a form of photo ID upon arrival.

The prison is located near Winchester town centre, up a steep hill opposite the Royal Hampshire County Hospital. Public transportation options include a bus service (#5) from the town center and train station. Parking near the prison can be challenging, so using the ‘Park and Ride’ service from the ‘South’ car park at M3 Junction 11 is recommended​​​​.
