Booking a Visit

To schedule a visit to HMP Prescoed, you need to book by telephone as there’s no online booking service. The booking line (01291 675 127) operates at specific times:

  • Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday: 09:00-12:00 and 14:00-16:00
  • Wednesday: 14:00-16:00
  • Friday: 09:00-12:00​​​​​​

Visiting Times

  • Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday: 2pm to 4pm. Note that late arrivals (more than half an hour) may not be admitted​​​​.

Travel and Parking

Prescoed is approximately 5 miles from Pontypool, New Inn, and Cwmbran stations. Given the lack of local bus services, a taxi from the station is necessary. National Rail Enquiries can assist in planning your journey by public transport. The prison also provides a visitors’ car park with spaces for Blue Badge holders​​.

Visitor Regulations

Identification and Security

  • All visitors aged 16 or over must provide valid identification.
  • Expect a pat-down search for all visitors, including children, and potential security dog sniffing.
  • Adhere to dress code guidelines to avoid being turned away. Prohibited items include revealing clothing or clothing with offensive slogans​​.

Items and Spending

  • Visitors can carry a maximum of £20 to purchase food and drink in the visiting hall’s coffee shop.
  • Most personal items must be stored in lockers or left with security, including pushchairs and car seats​​.

Visitor Centre
