Visiting HMP Barlinnie: Essential Information

Arranging Your Visit:

1. Scheduling and Planning: To visit HMP Barlinnie, refer to the monthly timetable and book in advance.
2. Remand Visits: Schedule through Remand Booking Line (0141 770 2109) giving 24 hours notice.
3. Convicted Visits: The inmate arranges the visit, and a Visit Order is mailed to the visitor.

Types of Visits:

1. Regular Visits: Four Remand and three Convicted visits are available each weekday, with two of each during weekends.
2. Agents’ Visits: Drop-in for lawyers and social workers, Monday – Friday, 8.30am – 3pm.
3. Private Visits: For special circumstances like births or deaths; arranged through the Family Contact Team (0141 770 2037).
4. Child & Early Years Visits: Extra visits that allow more interaction with the child; arranged via the Family Contact Team.

Preparing for Your Visit:

1. Identification: Bring a photographic ID and a recent official letter confirming your address.
2. Prohibited Items: Avoid bringing food, drinks, and more than £10 in change. Secure other belongings in provided lockers.
3. Appropriate Attire: Abide by the prison’s dress code and refrain from bringing unpermitted items.
4. Arrival Time: Ensure you arrive well before the “CUT-OFF TIME” mentioned on the Visits Timetable to gain entry.

On Arrival:

1. Sign-in Procedure: Report to the Visitors’ Booking Desk, present your ID, and receive a table number for the visit.
2. Leaving Items for Inmates: Inform staff if you have items for the prisoner; must be arranged in advance.

In the Visiting Room:

1. Seating Arrangement: One seat is allocated for the prisoner and three for the visitors.
2. Amenities: A Tea Bar and vending machines are accessible to visitors. A play area is available for children during some visits.
