HMP The Mount

HMP The Mount is a Category C adult male training prison situated in Bovingdon, just outside Hemel Hempstead in Hertfordshire. Originally opened in 1987 as a facility for young offenders, it now exclusively houses adult prisoners. The prison has a capacity of 770 and provides both full and part-time education to inmates​​.

Visiting Information for HMP The Mount

Visits must be booked by telephone as there is no online booking service. The visiting times are:

  • Tuesday: 9am to 11am
  • Thursday: 9am to 11am

The booking line (01442 836 352) is open Monday to Friday, 10:30am to 4pm. Visitors are required to arrive 15 minutes prior to their visit. Late arrivals will not be allowed entry. Accepted forms of photographic ID include a valid passport, photographic driving license, Citizen Card, or a Senior Citizens Bus Pass. Proof of address, such as a utility bill or bank statement dated within the last 3 months, is also required​​​​.
